App: EasyGit Backup (macOS)
Developer: Mike Coxon
Contact: cawingcrows.misic@gmail.com
This Privacy Policy explains how EasyGit Backup (“the App”) handles information when you use it on your Mac. Please update the contact email and hosting URL before App Store publication if they differ from your production addresses.
1. Summary
- The App is local-first. It does not require an EasyGit Backup account.
- We do not operate advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs in the App.
- Repository content and backup archives are stored on your Mac and on destinations you configure.
- The developer does not receive copies of your repositories through the App.
2. Information the App accesses on your device
To provide backup and restore features, the App may read and write:
- Git repositories under folders you configure for discovery (often including iCloud Drive project trees).
- EasyGit-related local metadata used for discovery (for example preferences or local database files associated with EasyGit on your Mac).
- Application configuration, logs, manifests, and snapshots under
~/.easygit-backup/. - User-selected or configured backup destinations such as local folders, external drives, mounted NAS volumes, or secondary cloud sync folders.
- Optional credentials or encryption secrets stored in the macOS Keychain under the App’s Keychain service when you enable protected destinations.
3. Information we collect
The developer does not collect personal data from the App for analytics, advertising, or profiling. There is no in-app account registration with the developer, and no telemetry pipeline to developer servers.
If you email support, we will receive the information you choose to include in that message (such as your email address and diagnostic details you paste).
4. How information is used
On-device data is used solely to:
- Discover repositories and assess their state (including iCloud dataless status).
- Create, verify, retain, schedule, and restore backups.
- Show status in the App UI and optional local notifications.
- Write logs and manifests needed for troubleshooting and integrity.
5. Destinations and third parties
If you configure a destination outside your Mac (for example a NAS share or a synced cloud folder), backup data is written according to that destination’s behavior and that provider’s privacy terms. The App does not sell your data to third parties.
When the App materializes iCloud Drive files, Apple’s iCloud systems may be involved to download content to your device under Apple’s terms.
6. Notifications
Optional success/failure notifications are delivered locally on your Mac. They are not sent to developer servers.
7. Data retention and deletion
Backup snapshots remain until you delete them, prune them via retention settings, or remove the destination storage. Uninstalling the App may leave ~/.easygit-backup/ and destination archives in place until you delete them manually. LaunchAgent files (if installed) can be removed from the Scheduler or by uninstalling the daemon.
8. Children’s privacy
The App is intended for general audiences of developers and Mac users. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Data security
We design the App to keep archives local-first, support integrity checks (including checksums and Git verification flows), and optionally encrypt destination payloads with AES-256-GCM when enabled. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure; protect your Mac account, FileVault, and destination access carefully.
10. Your choices
- Choose which discovery paths and destinations to use.
- Disable or uninstall the background scheduler.
- Turn notifications on or off in Settings.
- Delete local config, logs, and snapshots from disk when desired.
11. App Store privacy labels
For App Store Connect privacy nutrition labels, the App is intended to be declared as collecting no data linked to you for tracking or analytics. User content (repositories and backups) remains under user control on device / user destinations. Review and confirm labels against the shipping binary before submission.
12. Changes
We may update this Policy as the product evolves. The effective date above will change when material updates are published at this URL.
